My Crossfit journey started January 2010 at Akwesasne crossfit. I was 33, overweight, I had high blood pressure and I was at risk of heart disease. I wanted to change my life along with my families.

Let me tell you a little about myself. I am a daughter, mother of 3 children, a wife, oldest of ten siblings and a full time nurse for Akwesasne community. I’ve never been athletic but I always enjoyed participating in high school sports. I use to love watching T.V. and I had a bad habit of purchasing different workout videos through infomercials with intention of using them but somehow never got around to it that being said, they’re still in their original box right by the T.V. I have also attempted weight management programs such as weight watchers and Revolution diet. They gave me the results but never did they motivate me to make a lifestyle change.

I was ready to get serious and change the direction in which my life was going. My first step was joining akwesasne crossfit gym. My first day at the gym, I realized how out of shape and unhealthy I was. The energy at the gym was high and walked out feeling enthousiatic for my next workout and what this new journey would bring to my life. When I returned home that evening I through out all the pasta, rice, bread and all processed food. I then made the annoucement to my family that we were going to make some serious changes with our diet for the sake of our health and well being. There were grumbles and grunts at the beginning but they soon began to appreciate the changes we made and they started enjoying the paleo food we were now eating. My children soon spread the word through their school that they were no longer eating bread and pasta nore sugar which made me proud that they were too excited about this lifestyle change.

The first six weeks of my crossfit journey I lost just about 10 pounds and 7 total inches, my energy soared through the roof. I have also made it a goal to complete a sprint triathlon. Currently I have lost 30 pounds and a ton of inches, I no longer have high blood pressure and I lowered my risk of heat disease. I don’t watch life on TV; I now live life. I can swim, run, bike better then ever. I can row, squat and I have learned to be a weightlifter.

Crossfit never gets old, it’s constantly varried and theres always new goals to be set. I love the crossfit community, they are strong, positive and happy people.

Once my triathlon is completed my next goal might be the crossfit games or level one certification, anything is possible.
