Gerry’s testimonial

Every journey starts somewhere

My name is Gerry L and I am a 58 year old custodian with the Catholic School Board. I started my fitness journey with Tyler about 5 weeks ago. Both my wife and daughter have been going to Crossfit for about a year now, but never once did I think of joining them. You see, I’m not your typical 58 year old man. I’m a hard worker and like to rise to any challenge, but I smoked most of my life and worked out very little. I am currently awaiting a knee replacement, so I live with a lot of pain on a daily basis. Going up and down stairs is hard. Squatting is impossible. To top it off, I am also an amputee, having lost my other leg in a train accident when I was 9. To say that I am limited is an understatement. So when my wife and daughter harassed me about getting in shape, I thought they were crazy and that I would be completely useless in the gym. It was only when my daughter actually made me an appointment for a consultation with Tyler that I actually began thinking about it. Could I do this? Would I be able to do anything at all? I was very hesitant to try.

I just completed 5 weeks of one-on-one sessions with Tyler and have begun attending regular Crossfit classes. Turns out, I’m capable of doing more than I thought. Sure, anything that involves squatting is off limits for me, but I can feel my upper body and core and back gaining strength. I’m sore, but it’s a good sore. I may not do the workout like everybody else does, but I’m doing A workout, which is way more than I was doing before. I’m starting to believe that once I do get my knee replacement, I’m going to come back and be stronger than ever. It will be an uphill battle for sure, but one that I am certain I can win. Thanks Tyler for showing me that not only the strongest and fittest have a place in your gym. My journey as a Crossfitter has officially begun…

I have been coming to Crossfit twice a week without really expecting anything different than I would from a regular gym routine. Boy was I wrong! Not only do I feel stronger than I ever felt possible, but, I am also more full of energy and am reviewing some of my food choices. Crossfit is fun but more than that it feels good. Years ago I was in a car accident that left my right side easily strained and sore, with Crossfit my back is stronger and I seem to have fewer aches and pains. Thanks everyone for bringing Crossfit to our area!
